Our 4th National Multi-Unit Summit program held in Melbourne in late May 2013, was a successful 2-day program, full of highly focused interactive sessions to help franchisors and franchisees build, execute and maximise the success of their multi-unit programs. This year we streamlined the Summit program to better meet the unique needs of franchisors and franchisees.

We acknowledge that multi-unit franchising offers an attractive growth option for franchisees and franchisors but with this opportunity comes risk as running successful multi-unit operations requires unique knowledge and skills. Also the cost of failure is higher (as some franchisors and franchisees have unfortunately discovered).

The aim of our 4th National Multi-Unit Summit was to provide both franchisors and franchisees opportunities to learn how to grow faster and reduce the risk of doing so.

Day 1 was specifically for franchisor executives, focusing on real life examples of best practice as well as the building blocks of a successful multi-unit strategy. With engaging presentations from Natalie Dalbo (7-Eleven Stores), Justin Tuddenham (Quick Service Restaurant Holdings), Steve LeFever (Business Resource Services), Greg Nathan (FRI) and Simon Ovenden (National Australia Bank), it was a day full of insights, case studies and best practice of multi-unit franchising at its best.

Day 2 of the Summit was designed for multi-unit franchisees, with the focus on improving unit level profitability and performance through better control of finances, improving systems, growing sales and creating motivated managers and teams. The Multi-Unit Hot Seat featuring top multi-unit operators: Matt Walker (Grill’d), Carolyn McManus (The Coffee Club) and Gary Higgon (KFC & Pizza Hut) was a crowd favourite with the discussion and questions from the floor coming thick and fast.

Round table discussions in the afternoons on both days provided participants with the opportunity to dig deeper into a range of topics and issues close to their heart. Wrapping up each day with break-out workshops, the 80+ participants who attended the Summit walked away inspired, refreshed, with a swag of practical ideas and strategies on improving the effectiveness of multi-unit franchising in their own business.
