The Story of Our Offices

We had an image in our minds of exactly the type of office we wanted — a renovated “Queenslander” (that’s a type of building design) where we could create our own vibe. It had to be close to Brisbane’s city centre with nice views, air conditioning, good parking, a big veranda for outdoor meetings and a backyard so the corporate dog had room to run around. And of course it had to be big enough to fit us all and within our budget.

After six weeks of searching we found it, almost exactly as we envisioned. Except for one added feature — a full blown convenience store underneath.

Our landlord, Coralie, had actually wanted to pull down the house to build a convenience store. But the local Council blocked her saying it was a protected heritage listed property. So instead of thinking laterally she thought vertically and had the heritage listed building raised into the air.

Her convenience store was then built on the ground level and the house placed back on top, as you can see from the photo below. We’ll never run out of milk, newspapers or groceries again!
